National Youth Service

Since its establishment in 1973, the National Youth Service (NYS) has been empowering the Jamaica’s youth. As mandated by the National Youth Service Act 1999, the organization’s goal is to equip youths, 17-24 years old, with the necessary life coping skills to foster their personal and career development as well as enhance their contribution to community and national development.

At present, NYS has developed a portfolio of programmes to cater to all segments of the country’s youth by emphasizing inclusiveness. Through its programme offerings, especially by exposure to the personal development curriculum, NYS emphasizes core values and behavioural attitudes that aid participants’ personal development, stimulate volunteerism and build national pride. NYS is becoming more market driven by incorporating labour market trends and client needs in its programme development process.
